Ultherapy is a safe, non-surgical treatment that uses micro focused ultrasounds.
Ultherapy counteracts the effects of time and gravity on the skin of the face and the neck, with excellent results on the décolleté.
We have asked more information to Dr Carlo Borriello and Dr Massimo Renzi, two of the most skilled practitioners in this procedure.
“Using the body’s own regenerative response, it gently and gradually lifts the skin on the eyebrow, under the chin and on the neck, and smooth lines and wrinkles on the décolletage.
Ultherapy is the only non-invasive treatment cleared by the US FDA to lift the skin. Ultherapy is the only cosmetic procedure to use ultrasound imaging, which allows practitioners to see the layers of tissue targeted during the treatment to ensure the energy is deposited where it will be most beneficial.
Practitioners can safely choose the most appropriate transducer according to the depth they need to treat (4,5 mm; 3,0 mm; 1,5 mm). As the ultrasound image allows to see – and avoid – bones and vascular structures, Ultherapy does not produce side effects or nuisance during the treatment.
Without damaging its superficial layers, sound energy goes through a skin depth unmatched by previous non-invasive cosmetic devices. Ultherapy ultrasound stimulates collagen production in the skin’s foundation, resulting in a clinically significant lift of tissue over 2-3 months.
As the 4,5 mm transducer delivers energy directly to the superficial layer of the muscle, Ultherapy represents a great alternative to a surgical facelift, especially for those patients not ready for surgery or for the ones who want to extend the effects of cosmetic surgery. Anyway, we do not expect the same results of a surgical facelift.
Treating the skin’s deep foundational layer, it is a great alternative to a surgical facelift, especially for those not ready for surgery or for patients looking to extend the effects of cosmetic surgery.
The length of the treatment depends on the area being treated and the individual treatment plan. A face and neck procedure typically takes 60-90 minutes, while a chest treatment takes approximately 30 minutes.
As the ultrasound energy is delivered, the person receiving the treatment feels tiny amounts of energy being deposited to precise depths, indicating that the collagen-building process has been initiated. Comfort levels vary from person to person, but the sensation only lasts while the ultrasound energy is being delivered and disappears after the when the treatment is stopped.
After the procedure, normal activities can be resumed immediately, without having to follow any special post-treatment measures, and with no downtime; a light sunburn could appear a few hours after the treatment.
After the treatment, some initial effect may be noticed, but the ultimate results will take place over 2-3 months. Since the procedure stimulates our own collagen production, length of the results depends on the individual:”
Based on the experience of Dr Carlo Borriello most patients only need one treatment. However, based on the degree of skin laxity, the biological response to ultrasound energy and the individual’s collagen-building process, some patients benefit from additional treatments.
